You can now control who “Quotes” your posts on Threads
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, said last month that Threads is testing some new controls that allow it to restrict who can quote your posts on the platform. The feature is now rolling out to all users. This means you can now choose to allow only people you follow to quote your posts, or you can turn off the quote feature entirely for your account.
Threads, Meta’s social network that aims to compete with X (Twitter), continues to implement new features and improvements to attract new users and please those who have already embarked on the new trend.
In an official statement, Adam Mosseri talked a little more about the new Threads tool, which allows you to better control who can and cannot cite your posts on the social network:
The ability to limit who can cite your posts in Threads is now available to everyone. You can allow citations from everyone in Threads, only from people you follow, or disable post citations entirely.
Now, there are two ways to prevent people from quoting your posts in Threads. First of all, when you create a new post, you’ll see “Anyone can reply and quote” written at the bottom of the screen. Tap on it to reveal the options: “Anyone,” “Profiles You Follow,” and “Mentioned Profiles Only.”
In other words, if you want, you can allow everyone to repost your content as a quote or limit it to the people you’ve mentioned. “I hope this helps keep Threads a more positive place and gives people more control over their experience. If you use this feature, I’d love to hear from you,” Mosseri added.
How you can do this
To adjust your quote settings, go to Settings → Privacy → Quotes. From there, you can select “Only people I follow” or “Off” to control who can quote your Threads.
In addition to new posts, you can also check who cites your existing posts. To do this, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of a post. Tap on the “Who can respond and quote” button and you will find the same three options mentioned above.
