Instagram launches IGTV, a potential competitor to YouTube

Instagram was launched in October 2010 exclusively on iOS, followed by an Android version in April 2012. In less than eight years, the photo and video-sharing social networking service has reached 1 billion users worldwide. Announcing the news through a blog post, Kevin Systrom, Co-Founder & CEO, Instagram, wrote, “this is a major accomplishment — so from all of us at Instagram, thank you!” However, it’s not just that. Instagram has also made a feature announcement this week, which the company believes is its “most exciting feature to date.” The company has revealed an upcoming standalone app, IGTV, which will allow Instagram video creators to upload vertical videos of up to an hour long. DevTube – Is this A developer’s YouTube?

There’s a new resource for developers. Dev.Tube is where you will find YouTube videos from conferences collected by developers for developers. The website already includes 10,000 videos – of which 1289 are flagged as New having been uploaded after its launch. Just as I Programmer looks for news that is going to interest developers and curates it, allowing you to find it by topic, DevTube now does the same for conference videos, providing a Search facility and a set of filters. Google launches Measure Matters

The Google Analytics team has launched a video series called Measure Matters that looks at best practices on using Google Analytics with data. While some of the topics sound rather too ‘marketeery’, others have info of interest to developers. The series started in May with a deep dive into Machine Learning. This looked at automated insights within Google Analytics, and how they use machine intelligence to find interesting insights from the many combinations of metrics and dimensions.For example, an automated insight might highlight when you get visitors from a different source visiting your website, or what’s driving increased sales of a product.
