How to Clean Windows 10 threat history
Using Windows over the years has proved that not having antivirus combo with the operating system can be a night mare for a heavy internet user. As relieving as it is when Windows Defender catches a spyware, virus or any of its nemesis it is very unpleasant when you have to see the list any time you visit the history.
Be it as that is what it was made for. In this video you get to know how to remove history from time to time when you don’t need that history.
I recall on older versions of Windows Defender (now Windows Security Center) that you could clear the threat history. I have found no such way in current versions of Windows Security Center. Is there a way to do this? I am on Windows 10 1903.
Delete folder Service C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service .
Follow the tutorial below if your version of Windows 10 does not allow you the option above.
After deleting the folder Service, off and turn on (OFF>ON) Real-Time protection and Cloud protection.
There are several ways to clear the Windows Defender threat history in Windows 10. Here are a few methods:
Using Windows Security
- Open Windows Security by clicking on the shield icon in the taskbar or by searching for it in the Start menu.
- Click on the “Virus & threat protection” tab.
- Scroll down to the “Protection history” section and click on “Manage settings”.
- Click on the “Clear history” button to delete all the recorded threats.
Using File Explorer
- Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History
- There should be two folders: “QuickScan” and “Service”.
- Open the “Service” folder and delete all the files inside.
- Restart your computer.
Using Command Prompt (Admin)
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator by searching for it in the Start menu and right-clicking on it, then selecting “Run as administrator”.
- Type the following command and press enter:
del /q /s "%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service\*"
- Restart your computer.
Note that clearing the Windows Defender threat history does not remove any malware or viruses from your computer. It only clears the record of detected threats.
