Microsoft will end support for Android apps on Windows 11 in 2025
Microsoft will end support for Android apps on Windows 11 in 2025. The Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) will be deprecated starting March 5th, 2025, leading to the discontinuation of the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA.
Users who have already installed Android apps from the Amazon Appstore will still have access to them beyond the support cutoff date but won’t be able to download new ones once the subsystem is discontinued.
Microsoft’s decision to end support for WSA comes after initially introducing it in 2021 to allow Windows 11 users to run Android apps alongside native Windows apps. This move signifies a shift away from relying on Amazon’s Appstore for Android apps and hints at Microsoft’s continued efforts to integrate Windows PCs with Android devices through other means.
The end of support for Android apps on Windows 11 will have significant implications for users and developers. Users will no longer have access to their favorite Android apps on the Windows platform, leading to a loss of functionality and customization options.
The discontinuation of the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) will impact both software and hardware specifications, affecting devices like the AMD Ryzen 5900X 12-core CPU and peripherals such as the Logitech MX Master 2S mouse. This shift opens up opportunities for users and developers to explore alternative methods for running Android apps on Windows, such as using emulators like BlueStacks or third-party alternatives like Waydroid.
