How to create local account on Window 10 Home on first OS install

Windows 10 Home is a popular edition of the Windows 10 operating system designed for home users. It offers a range of features and functionalities that cater to the needs of everyday users.
Creating a local account during the initial Windows 10 Home installation is not a straightforward process, as Microsoft encourages users to sign in with a Microsoft account. However, if you prefer to have a local account for your Windows 10 Home installation, you can follow these steps:
Out-of-box experience (OOBE) setup
If you can’t find the option to add a local account during the Windows 10 Home setup process, it’s because Microsoft has removed this option from the out-of-box experience (OOBE) setup. To create a local account on Windows 10 Home during the initial OS installation, you can follow these steps:
- Turn on your new device to begin the preinstalled Windows 10 Home set-up process .
- When you reach the “Sign in with Microsoft” screen, you will see an option to create a Microsoft account. Either sign in or create a new Microsoft account to continue.
- Complete the rest of the Windows 10 Home installation process by following the on-screen instructions.
- Upon successfully installation, got Control Panel, then Users to create a local account.
- Open the Control Panel by searching for it in the Start menu or right-clicking the Start button and selecting “Control Panel.”
- In the Control Panel, change the “View by” option to “Large icons” or “Small icons” to see all the available options.
- Click on the “User Accounts” or “User Accounts and Family Safety” option.
- In the User Accounts window, click on the “Manage another account” option. On the next screen, click on the “Add a new user account” option.
- Choose the option to create a “Local account” rather than a Microsoft account. Enter the desired username for the local account and, if needed, provide a password for the account. You can also set a password hint to help you remember the password.
- Click on the “Next” or “Create Account” button to create the local account.
Once the account is created, you can log in to Windows using the newly created local account.
Installation from a USB Drive or DVD.
Method 1: Look for the Offline account
- Start the Windows 10 Home installation process by booting from a USB drive or DVD.
- When you reach the “Sign in with Microsoft” screen, you will see an option to create a Microsoft account. Skip this step.

Method 3: Enter a Bogus Phone Number
- Start the Windows 10 installation process by booting from a USB drive or DVD.
- When you reach the “Sign in with Microsoft” screen, enter a bogus phone number in the account screen.
- On the next screen, you may see the option to create an offline account.
- Click on the offline account option and proceed to create a local account.
Remember, having a local account means that you won’t have access to some of the cloud-based features and synchronization options that come with a Microsoft account. However, it does provide increased privacy and control over your system.
