Apple Intelligence is projected to roll out fully by March 2025

Following this launch, additional features such as Genmoji and Image Playground are expected to be available in December 2024 with the release of iOS 18.2.

Apple disappointed many people by holding the news of Apple Intelligence in the iOS 18 update, leaving the artificial intelligence features for version 18.1 of the system. Apparently, however, users of the iPhone 16 line or the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models won’t have to wait long to receive the public update of the new version, at least according to well-known journalist and analyst Mark Gurman in his weekly Power On column on Bloomberg.

As reported by Gurman, Apple has set the public release date of iOS 18.1 for October 28, the last Monday of the month. The delay in the release would be deliberate, seeking to make everything as stable as possible at the software level — that is, eliminating all the bugs still present in the beta versions of iOS 18.1 — and also to ensure that the AI servers will withstand the tens of millions of simultaneous accesses they will have as soon as the novelty is made available on a large scale.

An important point to highlight is that, despite the release of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1, Apple’s AI suite will not arrive complete — one of the reasons given for the lower-than-expected demand for the iPhone 16 line. At this first moment we will only have simpler functions such as notification summary, writing tools, Memories in the Photos app, and transcription and summary in the Notes and Phone apps.

Integration with ChatGPT, use of generative AI with GenMoji, image generation and editing with Image Playground, email creation and other more advanced options will only arrive from iOS 18.2 onwards, that is, users will still need to wait a few more weeks to get their hands on them — at least in the public version of the system. Everything should be completed only in March 2025 with iOS 18.4, which would bring the “new” Siri with advanced app control and use of personal information.
