At the just recent GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, BlackBerry announced the Motion, an all-screen smartphone with a massive 4,000mAh battery capacity, higher than Samsung Galaxy S8+ which has a 3,500mAh battery capacity.
Made by TCL under the BlackBerry Mobile brand with a previous codenamed “Krypton”, Motion packs a 5.5-inch screen running on Snapdragon 625 SoC platform.
Motion is the second device from the modern BlackBerry following the release of KEYone smartphone earlier this year, however, KEYone comes with a physical keyboard under a touchscreen.
Motion is a pure touchscreen smartphone just for BlackBerry’s core customers as the company largely left hardware in the past.
BlackBerry, the company formerly knowns as Research in Motion, sold its handheld branding rights to TCL, which is the company behind Motion.
BlackBerry itself is making a comeback as a software vendor focusing on security with it latest quarterly earnings report suggesting the pivot is working splendidly, exceeding the Streets earnings expectations. The company also reported record gross margins of 76 percent up from 67% last quarter and 62% a year ago.
The biggest catch: BlackBerry and TCL are aiming for a limited launch, which practically means, for now, the Middle East. Select markets are promised but not named. The BlackBerry Motion for retail for 1,699 AED/SAR ($460).
