The agents say the sudden suspension has disrupted their businesses and left them unable to access or trade with money tied to the affected lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Contention<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gtech-migrated-from-ad-inserter-placement-2\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"gtech-3673189324\"><div style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"gtech-4116135399\"><a data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/linkout\/78735\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"notrack\" aria-label=\"005\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2026\/03\/005.webp\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2026\/03\/005.webp 1000w, https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2026\/03\/005-768x768.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><\/div><p>The protesters claim MTN provided a text message at 17:57 GMT notifying them that they are blocking their SIMs on allegation that they are linked to allegations of fraud transactions. The protesters argue that they were blocked at exactly 18:00 GMT: meaning MTN Mobile Money Ghana gave these agent <strong>3minutes<\/strong> notice on the 14<sup>th<\/sup> of April, 2026 and just blocked them, not given clear details about the specific complaints against them. According to the aggrieved agents, the lack of transparency has made it difficult for them to defend themselves or resolve the matter quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-border-color has-luminous-vivid-amber-border-color\" style=\"border-top-left-radius:15px;border-top-right-radius:15px;border-bottom-left-radius:15px;border-bottom-right-radius:15px\"><blockquote><p>Y&#8217;ello Agent, we have detected unathorised transactions on your wallet through our Agent App which breach Section 4 &amp; 7 of the Agent Agreement. Your wallet will be blocked on 14th Aprill for violation. Funds will only be released upon reciept of a valid court order. Thank you.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>They also say the shutdown of the SIMs has effectively locked up their trading funds, leaving many of them unable to serve customers or continue normal business operations. Several of the agents expressed frustration that the action was carried out without enough warning, saying it has caused serious financial losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Problem &#8211; The MTN App Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>MobileMoney Fintech Limited finds itself in a very awkward position as an error in their Agent App has been exploited and they are safeguarding their risk by enforcing their terms of service agreement with their Agents. Now that choice is at the discretion of MobileMoney Fintech Limited as an organisation, however the regulator would need to come into this situation to ensure fairness or equity as it is the responsibility of MobileMoney Fintech Limited to secure their app so is it the responsibility of the 9,738 affected Agents to respect their agreement with MobileMoney Fintech Limited. They insisted that any investigation into fraud should be handled fairly and with clear communication, especially because their businesses depend heavily on constant mobile connectivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development adds to growing tensions between mobile money agents and agent operators over compliance, fraud prevention, and SIM registration issues. This restructuring was completed to position fintech as a standalone growth unit. This aftermath may well be a step to remediate the known fundamental issues in their mobile money service related to the rampant spams and frauds on the service. The deed is welcomed; the approach however could have been better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-8-background-color has-background\">MTN Ghana has an obligation under its licensing conditions from the Bank of Ghana to maintain a functional, fair, and transparent agent network. Blocking agent SIMs to mask a platform fault rather than fixing it is not acceptable practice &#8211; and it is the kind of conduct that regulators will act on if it is formally reported with evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Affected agents can do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>File a collective complaint with the Bank of Ghana. Write a formal letter signed by as many of the 9,738 agents as possible or by their association representatives addressed to: The Governor, Bank of Ghana, Financial Stability Department, Accra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>File with the NCA, The National Communications Authority handles SIM blocking complaints: Online: nca.org.gh or Toll free: 0800-100900<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before they attempt any of the above, they need to be sure they are not at fault<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-2-color has-palette-color-1-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-f70bd31313d12d6278e8797d64a5a734\">MTN has not yet publicly responded to the latest protest, but the issue is expected to intensify calls for better coordination between the company, regulators, and mobile money operators.
