Apple introduced the M2 Max\u00a0as its new high-performance chip for Mac. Although it promises 30% more graphics processing speed than the M1 Max with its GPU of up to 38 cores, the platform still appears to be below\u00a0NVIDIA’s dedicated graphics cards, as suggested by a benchmark recorded last Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Geekbench, a MacBook Pro with M2 Max at its maximum GPU configuration recorded 75,139 points in OpenCL, suggesting that the hardware\u00a0has 35% lower performance than a notebook with Intel Core i9-13900HK and GeForce RTX 4070\u00a0<\/strong>from Samsung, which obtained 102,130 in a benchmark test done on the platform prior to its official release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OpenCL is an API used in the development of several popular games,\u00a0such as Minecraft<\/em>\u00a0and Doom<\/em>\u00a0(2016), as well as software for professional graphics editing,\u00a0such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro, which are at the heart of the MacBook Pro strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we always emphasize, any benchmark test should be interpreted with caution, since it does not faithfully represent the overall performance of a PC. The scores indicate that a notebook with GeForce RTX 4070\u00a0is able<\/em>\u00a0to reach these numbers under certain conditions \u2014such that they are not detailed by Geekbench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power consumption, generated heat, and software optimizations are just some of the factors that can directly influence a processor’s performance in benchmarks, so it’s possible that the GeForce RTX 4070 performs much better than the M2 Max GPU, but at the cost of battery life, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s worth\u00a0remembering that Apple has announced the 16-inch MacBook Pro\u00a0with a promise of up to 22 hours of battery life on a single charge; a record for Apple’s laptop. Although Apple does not reveal the power consumption of the M2 Max, NVIDIA claims that the GeForce RTX 4070 has TGP of up to 115W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Samsung has not yet announced this notebook, we are possibly talking\u00a0about the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, whose specifications were leaked on this recent past Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
