The cubesat, built by a Ghanaian engineering team at All Nations University, was delivered to NASA\u2019s International Space Station in June on a SpaceX rocket that took off from pad 39a at Kennedy Space Center, a NASA spokesperson confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gtech-migrated-from-ad-inserter-placement-2\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"gtech-4171492782\"><div style=\"margin-right: auto;margin-left: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"gtech-2222783831\"><a data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/linkout\/17207\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"notrack\" aria-label=\"26001\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2023\/01\/26001.jpeg\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2023\/01\/26001.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2023\/01\/26001-768x960.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" width=\"500\" height=\"625\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><\/div><p>The GhanaSat-1 deployed into orbit from the Center in July, and is now operational, according to project manager Richard Damoah, a Ghanaian professor and assistant research scientist at NASA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThis particular satellite has two missions,\u201d Damoah told TechCrunch. \u201cIt has cameras on board for detailed monitoring of the coastlines of Ghana. Then there\u2019s an educational piece\u2015we want to use it to integrate satellite technology into high school curriculum,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2017\/08\/ghana-sat-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"492\" src=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2017\/08\/ghana-sat-1.jpg\" alt=\"Ghana Sat 1\" class=\"wp-image-5826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2017\/08\/ghana-sat-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gtechbooster.com\/media\/2017\/08\/ghana-sat-1-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><strong>Ghana Sat 1 Team<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>GhanaSat-1 will send a signal to a ground station at All Nations University\u2019s Space Systems and Technology Laboratory. That\u2019s where it was developed by a team of engineers that included Benjamin Bonsu, Ernest Teye Matey, and Joseph Quansah.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Ghana\u2019s president Nana Akufo-Addo applauded the launch and congratulated the team directly, the project did not receive official Ghanaian government support, according to Damoah. The Dragon spacecraft will deliver 6,000 pounds of supplies, such as the Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer, or NICER, designed to study the extraordinary physics of these stars, providing insights into their nature and behavior.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The GhanaSat-1 deployment marks increased interest and activity in Africa toward space exploration. &nbsp;Nigeria\u2019s first cubesat launched on the same SpaceX mission.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cSeveral nations, such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia have space agencies.
