Qualcomm\u00a0announced on its website on Tuesday 8 the breaking of a world record: that of mobile internet signal range\u00a05G. The brand was hit in the USA, in a project developed in conjunction\u00a0with Nokia\u00a0and UScellular. In the evaluation, the signal reached more than 10 km away through the 5G technology of extended range millimeter wave (mmWave), in a commercial network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Field testing involved the use of Nokia AirScale Baseband radios and 28 GHz (n261) mmWave band on a commercial network of UScellular operator in the city of Grand Island, Nebraska. During the measurements, different locations and scenarios were tested, recording distances, yield and latency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the evaluation, in addition to obtaining a range of approximately 10 km, the companies were able to get an average speed of 1 Gbps on the download and approximately 57 Mbps on the upload. Even at a distance of more than 11 km from the antenna, a download speed of 750 Mbps was reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospects for the Nokia \/ Qualcomm \/ UScellular partnership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to Qualcomm, the result paves the way for the\u00a0expansion of Nokia’s extended-range 5G\u00a0service to hard-to-reach areas, both rural and suburban and urban. The use of Qualcomm Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Platform gen 1 technology allows mobile operators such as UScellular to bridge the connectivity gap between these unassisted internet communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
