Samsung announced today that it will begin mass production of the new ISOCELL JN1 sensor for smartphones, offering photographs with resolution of up to 50 MP, but standing out by the size of only 0.64 micrometro<\/strong> (\u03bcm), exclusivity that makes the new sensor the first in the industry with such compact format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the manufacturer, the ISOCELL JN1 will maintain the excellent image quality of larger sensors, but now in smaller size to allow thinner smartphones, aligning more components within the device. The 0.64\u03bcm sensor can be used for both the device’s main camera, as well as the ultrawide lens and telephoto lens, offering high quality on all lenses. In addition, the sensor can be used even as a front camera for high quality selfies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 50 MP resolution, the sensor can capture videos in 4K resolution at 60 fps or Full HD at 240 fps. Samsung highlights the catchphrase “ISOCELL is for everyone”<\/strong>, where it also confirms that JN1 can be used not only on high-performance devices, but also for intermediates, further expanding the photographic capacity of the segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the main features implemented by Samsung in the sensor is the inclusion of Smart ISO<\/strong>, which will allow to offer a wide dynamic range in high contrast scenarios. The sensor will identify the scene and automatically adjust the best HDR based on the amount of lighter areas and darker areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also highlights the Double Super Phase Detection,<\/strong>a feature that will allow for better autofocus even in night environments, offering identical performance even with 60% less light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As stated, Samsung announced the mass production of the new sensor, but the manufacturer has not revealed when the ISOCELL JN1 should be released, let alone which partner manufacturers already have a contract. Anyway, the first smartphone with the 50MP sensor and only 0.64\u03bcm is expected to be released within the next quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
